Job Title: CNC Machinist Apprentice

Job Location:  MD&A Parts Division- Marion, OH

Job Description:

Applies knowledge of mechanics, shop math, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures to set-up and operate a variety of computer numerical control machine tools to produce precision parts.  This is a full-time day shift position for a period of approximately 1 year which, upon qualifying as Machinist C, the selected candidate will then be placed in a 1st or 2nd shift role depending on where there is a need at that time.

Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of math and instruments such as micrometers, verniers, and gauges.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  • Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machine work.
  • Modify cutting programs to account for problems encountered during operation and save modified programs.
  • Enter commands to store or retrieve part programs, graphic displays, or programs that transfer data to other media.
  • Measure, examine, and test completed units for defects and ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Read work orders and/or production schedules to determine specifications, such as material to be used, location of cutting lines, and dimension and tolerances.
  • Start and run machines, monitor their operations, and record operational data.
  • Adjust machine speeds and actions, according to product specifications.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, working environment.
  • Support other areas of the shop as needed.

Position Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • 0-2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to organize work assignments to ensure efficient operations within the area.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner to achieve intended objective.
  • Ability to read and use related quality control tools such as vernier calipers, micrometers, indicators, and tape measures.
  • Good organizational skills
  • Understanding of lean and 6S safety in a manufacturing environment
  • Good computer skills
